King (Turkish King) Rules — Complete Guide to the 7 Contracts

King is a 4-player Turkish trick-taking compendium played with a full 52-card deck; each player gets 13 cards and plays for themselves. A match is 28 deals: 7 contracts rotate, each declared once by every player. Koz (El Al) is the only positive contract — the declarer names the trump suit and every trick is worth +50. The other six are penalty contracts: El Almaz −50 per trick, Kupa Almaz −30 per heart, Erkek −60 per jack/king, Kız −100 per queen, Son İki −180 for each of the last two tricks, and Rıfkı −320 for the single King of Hearts. The highest total wins the match.

Deck, players and match structure

King uses the full 52-card deck — four suits from 2 up to Ace, Aces high. Nothing is removed.

Four players, no partnerships: each plays alone. Each deal gives 13 cards per player and runs up to 13 tricks.

On this site contracts rotate without an auction: a match is 28 deals, each of the 7 contracts is played 4 times, and every player declares every contract once. The declaring player deals that hand and, in the trump contract, picks the koz.

The trump contract (Koz / El Al)

The declarer names a trump suit and leads the first trick. Any trump beats every card of the other suits.

You must follow suit if you can. If you are void in the led suit and hold any trump, you must play a trump — even a low one (underruffing is allowed).

The highest trump wins the trick; if no trump was played, the highest card of the led suit wins. Every trick is +50 points; a declarer taking all 13 tricks scores +650.

Penalty contracts and the penalty-card obligations

Penalty contracts have no trump. You must follow suit if you can.

The withholding rule: if you hold a penalty card of the led suit and a higher card of that suit has already been played to the trick, you must play your penalty card — you cannot save it.

If you are void in the led suit and hold any penalty card, you must discard a penalty card: hearts in Kupa Almaz, jacks/kings in Erkek, queens in Kız; in Rıfkı the ♥K first, otherwise any heart. If you hold no penalty card you may discard anything.

In Kupa Almaz and Rıfkı hearts may not be led until hearts have been broken (a heart discarded on an earlier trick); a player holding only hearts must lead a heart.

When every penalty card has appeared, the hand ends immediately — no points remain. That is why Rıfkı hands are so short: as soon as the ♥K hits the table, the deal is over.

Scoring and end of match

In Koz every trick you take is +50; in the penalty contracts every trick or penalty card you capture scores the negative value from the table above. Points accumulate deal after deal; after 28 deals the highest total wins the match.

Example: capture the ♥K in Rıfkı and you score −320, and the hand ends at once. In Son İki the first 11 tricks are free — only the last two cost −180 each to their winners.

Timers and auto-play

Every move is on the clock: 12 seconds to pick the trump and 16 seconds to play a card. When your time runs out the server plays the closest legal move, so a table never stalls.

Quick tips for beginners

In El Almaz, play low early — hoarding honors forces you to eat the last tricks.

In Kupa Almaz and Rıfkı, break hearts carefully: it also puts the ♥K holder in danger.

In Erkek and Kız, remember you cannot save a covered penalty card.

In Son İki, dump your high cards early so your last tricks are all low.
